Understanding nurse communication key to effective ambient AI use
Mercy Health System in St. Louis has nurses to use an ambient artificial intelligence system to assist with clinical documentation. Mercy Senior Vice President and CNE Stephanie Clements, BSN, RN, says Mercy analyzed how nurses communicate with patients and discovered nurses often were uncomfortable speaking aloud about what they were doing to enable AI to enter their words into the medical record. Mercy trained them to be specific in stating their tasks aloud. Nurses review transcriptions for accuracy. The tool provides doctors with better data and insights on patients and enables nurses to spend more time with patients and less time documenting care, says Clements, an AONL member. 杏吧原创 two-thirds of Mercy鈥檚 nurses report the tool has reduced their stress and burnout.
