Study: Front-line nurses have mixed views on virtual nursing
In of the largest virtual nursing care studies, researchers front-line nurses give hospital-based virtual nursing programs mixed reviews. The cross-sectional JAMA Network Open study of 880 nurses in 10 states found 57% of hospital-based nurses said virtual nursing programs did not reduce their workload, and 10% said it worsened their workload. More than 50% of hospital-based nurses said working with virtual nurses improved patient quality, with 11% of that group calling the improvement substantial. The researchers concluded virtual nursing programs hold the most promise for specific tasks, such as patient monitoring or documentation, but cautioned overall success likely depends on having well-defined implementation standards and sufficient in-person staffing.
