Merkley reintroduces AONL-supported FAAN Act
A trio of Democrats the Future Advancement of Academic Nursing Act, by AONL and the American Hospital Association. The bill would increase nursing school faculty and students, enroll underrepresented students in the nursing workforce, and modernize nursing education and infrastructure. Sens. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., and Adam Schiff, D-Calif., reintroduced the in the Senate, and Rep. Lauren Underwood, D-Ill., reintroduced the bill in the House. In a news release, AHA Senior Vice President for Advocacy and Political Affairs Lisa Kidder Hrobsky noted the bill would help address the nurse faculty shortage, which results in about 65,000 qualified nursing applicants being turned away from nursing schools annually due to a lack of available faculty to teach them.
