RN turnover  from 18% in hospitals to 100% in skilled nursing facilities between 2012 and 2023, according to a study of 2.8 million RNs and 1.4 million nurse assistants. Published in Health Affairs, the  found wages and insufficient staffing and burnout influenced nurses’ decision to leave or accept a position. While RNs comprise the largest clinical workforce in the U.S., they saw the smallest wage growth (0.51%) among health care professions. While nurse aides had the largest wage gains (1.48%), they, along with licensed practical nurses, earned the lowest salaries among the occupations studied. The authors note the RN workforce is less experienced, potentially resulting in lower wages. (McKnight’s Senior Living , 10/14/25)
