Faculty should continue development of virtual reality modules
Nursing faculty should continue to virtual reality simulation modules for nursing education, according to a Nursing Outlook study. Clemson University used a Health Resources and Services Administration grant to implement a virtual reality simulation curriculum for 184 undergraduate students in 2024. Project pitfalls included unexpected additional costs, time constraints and insufficient staffing. However, the virtual reality simulation increased students’ knowledge. Nearly 54% of students had a mixed response to working with the software, with only 44% saying the scenarios helped them understand what was expected of them before performing the same tasks on a manikin or simulated patient encounter. The authors say faculty and simulation staff must work together to refine simulation modalities for student experiences. (Nursing Outlook , 7/18/25)
