Worker mental health at risk due to CDC cuts

A government initiative to  a  for hospital leaders to improve systems to support their employees is imperiled due to cuts at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, a division within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. NIOSH partnered on the work with the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation, which helped health systems in four states implement pieces of the guide and learn from one another. The foundation has advocated for renewed funding to distribute the guide to all hospitals. However, the administration has fired a majority of NIOSH staff and proposed significant reductions to its budget. While industry and nonprofits could fill some gaps in addressing worker mental health, they cannot match the federal government’s resources, experts say. (KFF News , 7/13/25)
