Study: Health care workers more likely to be affected by long COVID-19
Long COVID-19 has U.S. health care workers more than Americans in other jobs, according to a Frontiers in Public Health study. The surveyed 1,678 U.S. health care workers and found 7.7% reported experiencing long COVID. People with long COVID experience a range of symptoms, including fatigue, headache, muscle aches, joint pains and shortness of breath. Nearly one in four health care workers with long COVID reported their symptoms significantly affected their work, according to a January 2025 from the Health and Human Services Department. The stress inherent in many health care jobs makes health care workers particularly vulnerable to long COVID, according to David Putrino, PhD, physical therapist and director of rehabilitation innovation at the Mount Sinai Health System in New York City.
