Hospital-at-home extension bill introduced

A bipartisan, bill would  certain Medicare waivers authorizing the hospital-at-home care program. Introduced in the House by Reps. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., Lloyd Smucker, R-Pa., and Dwight Evans, D-Pa., and in the Senate by Sens. Tim Scott, R-S.C., and Rev. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., the American Hospital Associated supports the Hospital Inpatient Services Modernization Act, which would extend the hospital-at-home waiver for five years. The house legislation has a companion bill in the Senate (). Without the extension, the waivers will expire on Sept. 30. An AHA  maintains a long-term extension will provide additional time to gather data on quality improvement, cost savings and patient experience. In addition, it will provide stability for new programs and could ease concerns about updating Medicaid policies to permit coverage of hospital-at-home services. (Rep. Buchanan , 7/10/25)
